  1. Watch Fox4 all the time…think Animal Haven is great…enjoy seeing the dogs for adoption and hearing about them. My husband and I are 77 & 75 we have an elderly cat “Max” and although we have not had a dog for the past 14 years we always had a dog in our home before that…so we are looking for an older dog..hope still healthy…meduim build..and housebroken. Our very favourite dog was a cross between a corgi and a daushound (maybe spelt that wrong)..know that does not seem possible but we found out that is what she was…golden in color…and the best pet we ever had. Our History with dogs is lengthy…we never gave any away…Those we had to leave behind because of travelling from England to America were left with caring family members….some died of old age here at our home.. we did have one -a minuture sheltie put to sleep because after giving birth to 7 puppies which took her 11 hours to deliver…she did not want anything to do with them or us ….and all of a sudden she became mean and nasty..I talked with our Vet and he could not expalin what was wrong..but recommended putting her to sleep.I found good homes for the puppies when they were old enough. In our “old age” we would like a companion…if one becomes available that you think would fit into our remaining years please e-mail me. We have a fenced in back yard..and we can manage short walks…have a large yard that is not fenced but where we can go on walks….Labs I love but are a little too big for us to handle now..loved a miniture cocker spanial that was our Son’s which we took over..going through our home…a black scottie..an old guy that was deaf..looked like General Patton’s Dog…a beautiful wirehaired fox terrier that I left with family in England.
Hope you can find us a companion that will fit into our home…Thank you…and Thank you for all the work you do.

  3. We were shopping on Black Friday and just happened to walk into the Animal Haven at Oak Park. I filled out a wish list for a maltese and a bichon. When I handed it to the lady, she said the dog up front was a Bichon.. you just couldn’t tell becasue they had to shave her due to the matted hair she had when they got her. Needless to say, I adopted her and she is ever so comfortably laying on my lap as I write this. Her name is Bella B and I love her to death. I am loving being a new “mommy” and as soon as her incison heals from getting fixed we are going to go on daily walks and have a ton of fun! I thank Animal Haven for giving me the newest additon to our family!

  5. We stopped by on Black Friday and took a look around. Wow! So many cute kitties to adopt…There was merchanidise available (I’m thinking specifically of a black T-shirt with a peace sign made of paw prints) and a sign that indicated that 35% of the proceeds went to Animal Haven. Is that so? It was very busy, so I grabbed a business card and thought I would look it up on the internet, however I have lost the card. Could anyone supply me with the link? I wish we could adopt more…but we already have three rescue dogs, one rescue cat and one rescue rabbit in a subdivision home with no fenced yard! Yikes! We make lots of trips to the dog park :)

  7. To Peggy: http://petjunkie.com/catalog/catalog.html page 13 you might be able to find the peace paw t-shirt? I went to http://www.animalhavenkc.org and there’s a link to Pet Junkie on the bottom. Click that, then the link to browse their catalog on the left side.

  11. To Anne, I know there are a lot of older dogs just waiting to be adopted at Animal Haven! Viola is my favorite, she’s an older lab – very patient. I’ve walked her several times, she’s wonderful on a leash, and when she loves you, you’ll know – she will lay right down and roll on her back for a tummy rub! There’s nothing better than to see a dog looking for a tummy rub!

  13. We adopted a feline senior today named JC from Oak Park, she was taken to the shelter because her previous owner passed away. We were looking to adopt an older cat because many people want kittens and the older ones tend to be ignored. She appears to love her new home and is going back between my lap and my wife’s lap. We know we made the right decision and we are happy that she will spend the remainder of her life with a loving family. She also loves the Christmas tree. Thanks Animal Haven for expanding our family this holiday season. We are truly blessed.

  15. We are so glad to hear that JC is doing well!
